VELUX A/S in Skjern undertakes its largest warehouse project to date - the establishment of a central warehouse that consolidates all activities, optimises processes, and frees up resources for other purposes.
kaastrup|andersen’s lead project manager and his team ensures that the project - including the implementation of complex structural changes - is completed successfully, on time, and within budget. The result is an efficient warehouse that paves the way for future growth and a new production line.
Challenge
In the spring of 2023, VELUX A/S in Skjern decides to establish a central warehouse for all activities in the area. The goal is to create a more efficient and unified warehouse operation, free up space and resources, and optimise production processes.
Initially, the project is led by the Logistics Manager at VELUX A/S. However, when the Logistics Manager leaves the company in mid-2023, a critical challenge arises. The project lacks a dedicated project manager to ensure progress and deliverables, increasing the risk of delays that could impact the timeline, budget, and quality.
Solution
kaastrup|andersen joins the project in July 2023 after a discussion with Skjern Campus Manager Finn Olesen, who highlights the need for a project manager. kaastrup|andersen’s Senior Director, Thomas Eriksen, takes on the role, bringing both project management expertise and solid experience with warehouse projects.
"kaastrup|andersen handled the task with high professionalism, clear oversight, and strong momentum. It was a great advantage that the lead project manager could draw on relevant expertise when needed. Throughout the project, they ensured efficient supplier management, met deadlines, and demonstrated consistent progress. This made them an indispensable partner, and we are very satisfied with both the collaboration and the outcome."
Tina Byskov
Logistics Manager, VELUX
A key aspect of the project involves supporting warehouse processes and ensuring efficient, future-proof operations. To handle the technical complexity and requirements for warehouse layout and systems, Senior Project Manager Mogens Futtrup joins the team, contributing with his in-depth expertise. Mogens focuses on both technical solutions and the necessary change management to ensure that warehouse staff successfully adopts the new systems and processes.
During the summer of 2024, Project Manager Ulrik Bendixen takes over management as installation work progresses. Throughout the process, kaastrup|andersen prioritises close collaboration with VELUX A/S and a structured project management approach to ensure that all deliverables are completed as planned.
Outcome
In October 2024, the new central warehouse stands completed—the largest warehouse project in VELUX A/S Skjern’s history. The warehouse is ready to supply bill-of-materials components to a new production line set to launch in February 2025.
"In a project of this scale, it’s not just about deliverables. Sharp focus on stakeholder management and change management is also crucial to ensure a successful implementation. It has been a pleasure to contribute to a project that adds value and supports VELUX A/S’ future growth."
